My work suggests a dialogue about cultural fusion rooted in personal experiences and is manifested through abstraction. The intent is to establish these recollections in a visceral manner rather than overtly. Metaphorically, they offer a visual pathway to exploring emotions. Each one is like a fingerprint of my emotional state of mind. My background as a female Chinese Peruvian growing up in Long Island, New York, has played a significant role in my body of work.

J P 제피 (formerly known as Jen Pack) is a bicultural and bigender artist, color explorer, tree climber, and truthseeker who has created home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. S(he) challenges dominant narratives and creates inceptive spaces in a practice of spiritual activism and exploration of the porous relationship between truth, beauty, and identity. (He)r work has been described as an artistic oxymoron: both loud and quiet, solid and transparent, hand-made and precise, delicate and aggressive, exuberant and restrained, formal and emotional. It is a reflection of J P, an artist of blended culture who is both loud and quiet, urban and rural, delicate and aggressive, masculine and feminine, adventurous and routine.

Jeff Kellar | Featured Artist

I’m working with forms and imagery pared down to the minimum, so everything is important, including texture. It’s difficult to see in photographs, but the color in my paintings is not flat. I’m trying to achieve surfaces that have depth, warmth, and intensity. The surfaces have layers that come together in seams or an incised line that is filled with another color. The depiction of space, the materials, colors and textures connect the paintings to the methods I use in my sculpture.
