American artist Brooke Major, born in 1979 and native to Atlanta, Georgia, has been living and working as a professional artist for the past 20 years, dividing her time between the USA (Georgia) and France. As a child, Brooke consistently excelled in drawing and painting. She was also an avid equestrian, which led her to move to Normandy to breed and raise horses for the sport of show jumping.
She moved initially to Paris to study political science at an American university, but felt herself drawn more towards the arts and followed auditing classes at the Beaux Arts school in Paris. Her political science studies led her to work for over a year and a half as an intern at the US Embassy in Paris.
Brooke sculpts with oil paint using palette knives, challenging both painting and sculpting techniques while showcasing light and shadow. She draws inspiration for her subjects from childhood experiences: travel, horses, and architecture. In her recent work, Brooke also depicts her everyday life through landscapes of the typical Norman countryside.
